english_pirateTurns out the Facebook folks have a sense of humor after all, and it’s not even Talk Like A Pirate Day! If you log in to your Facebook account and scroll to the bottom of the page, you’ll find your chosen language displayed. Clicking on that link will invoke the “Select Your Language” options. Among the choices is “English (Pirate)”.

Selecting this option changes a bunch of text throughout the site. “Home Page” becomes “Home Port”, “Photos” becomes “Bewitched Portrait”, and more. It would spoil things for us to reveal all the changes, but suffice to say it’s cute and harmless, and in beta.

As amusing as this is, however, they’ll have to go a lot farther to catch up with the shenanigans that the good folks at Google get up to, with their theme-driven logo that follows holidays and notable cultural events, not to mention their regular April Fool’s Day pranks.

In fact, I’m surprised there aren’t more geeky language options in that pop-up, like “Klingon“, “1337″, and “Binary”. Though with the sheer volume of little apps and silly games that Facebook contains, I’m sure it won’t be long before these things show up to bedevil us all. In fact, that’s the reason I left Facebook the first time. Arr … this be naught but foolishness! Avast! Strike sail and set out for the Africas! Make haste or I’ll keelhaul the lot o’ ye!
