New Hollywood Powerhouse WME Entertainment

Well, you know all of those big movie stars and big producers that create all those huge movies that we see in multiplexes, TV as well as online?  They’re all represented by several big talent agencies in Hollywood including Creative Artists Agency, William Morris Agency, and Endeavor Talent Agency.

It was announced yesterday that the William Morris Agency and Endeavor Talent Agency will merge to form a huge entity called “William Morris Endeavor Entertainment,” or WME for short. James A. Wiatt, Chief executive of William Morris will be Chairman of WME, and Ari Emanuael will be Co-Chief executive along with Patrick Whitesell of Endeavor and David Wirtschafter of William Morris.

Ari Emanuel, one of the original founders of Endeavor Talent Agency, whose aggressive persona inspired the character of Ari Gold on HBO’s “Entourage,” is also the brother of Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s Chief of Staff.

This new restructuring will result in layoffs of hundreds of agents and supporting staff which is never a pleasant experience.  But this merger will solidify the place of WME in the new digital landscape of Entertainment.

My only question is…Will there by a future “Entourage,” episode about this merger?  If so, I’m sure that the audience would love to see all the gory details.

  1. Ari, Spike and Emmanuel — can’t imagine what living in that family is like. lol, I remember reading someone that the three brothers couldn’t live in the same cities they were so competitive. Now Emmanuel is Spike’s boss =]
