Supreme Sneakerheads

A few years ago, I was just another gal living in New York City, and never quite understood why there was always a long line of hoodie-wearing guys next to the Supreme store on Lafayette Street.  They wait for days on end for the release of a new limited edition sneaker.  Well, these people (mostly dudes) are called Sneakerheads.  Yes, they collect limited edition sneakers for the purposes of fashion and knowing that only a select group of people have that sneaker.

Supreme opened in New York City in 1993 and now has stores in Japan and LA.  It sells fashionable skater clothes and the thing is that they don’t have a huge marketing budget to spread the word about their brand. No huge marketing meetings or people in suits.  Just a bunch of people who want to own a piece of the Supreme brand.  Oh, and all of their designs are done by their own in-house design team from fleeces to hats to t-shirts.

Yesterday, I was driving down Fairfax Ave here in LA around 6 AM and saw a huge line of hoodie-wearing guys waiting in front of the Supreme Store.   Yup, its the release of another big shoe.  In this case, its the Classic Nike Bruin Shoe in four colors.

These are some die hard Sneakerheads.
