If you’re like me Valve’s zombie shoot-em-up Left 4 Dead brought a new sense of excitement to the world of first-person shooters — and really gaming in general. The concept was simple enough, shoot and kill as many zombies as possible, but with L4D you did it with style. And like all classic games it’s challenging and replayable. One of those, “easy to learn, impossible to master” type games.
Well, for those excited by the first edition of Left 4 Dead, Valve has some more exciting news — the L4D Survival pack! Released today for the Xbox 360 (with an expected PC release later this week), the Survival pack adds a few new twists and extras. For starters, they’re adding Versus Mode to both the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns. But the real exciting news is the new Survival Mode.
According to the L4D blog, Survival Mode “pits your team against never ending waves of infected.” Simple enough. But like most things with this game, it’s never that easy. That’s because the longer you last the harder it gets. It get’s so hard in fact that game testers have yet to last longer than 9 minutes. And supposedly if you last up to 14, Tanks start to appear every 15 seconds. So, it’ll certainly be challenging.
And for those of you like me who like to compete, the Survival Mode will also feature leader boards and the like, so you can see who’s the top zombie killer.
Last point — the Survival Pack is free. Not bad.
