tronsetpicbig2After what feels like a frillion years, Hollywood is finally giving us a new Tron movie. From leaked footage of a teaser at ComicCon last year, we know it’s currently being called “TR2N”, and that Jeff Bridges is definitely involved. The rest, however, is still tightly under wraps.

Over at Ain’t It Cool News, a reader has submitted a photo taken on a scene shoot that shows the exterior of a building with the name Encom emblazoned over an entranceway. For those who might not remember, Encom was the name of the evil corporate empire that created the MCP, the domineering program that digitized Flynn and dropped him into the digital universe. Further, according to the submitting reader, that scene in particular is a flashback to 1989 where someone, presumably an executive, rushes from the building and ducks into a limo. If you take a good look at the people standing around outside, there does seem to be 80’s clothing being worn — jean jackets, Flock of Seagulls-style coifs, the whole bit.

And because we don’t know anything about the plot, let’s go ahead and speculate wildly, shall we? Looking at the trailer, it’s being presented with a much darker tone than the previous film. When Jeff Bridges appears, he has a sinister cast to him, and it seems that he might have something to do with the kill command on the hapless character in the scene. So my take is this:

After destroying the MCP and taking over the company in the first film, Encom goes on to huge success with Flynn at the helm. However, power corrupts, and over time Fynn becomes increasingly more evil as the years go on, leading to the Bruce Boxleitner character Alan quitting in disgust. There will be a MacGuffin about some IP that belongs to Boxleitner that Flyyn won’t let go, so Alan must once again prove his coding skills and create a hack that will let him gain access to the mainframe and get his work back. There will likely be updated vehicle and weapon designs, a much more fast-paced direction, and awesome bearded Flynn action. My neon-outlined dreams can’t get here soon enough.
