Dork Yearbook! You’re Welcome.

Dorkiness. It’s a phase that we all must go through in order to progress to The Cool. Before the advent of the Internet, you stood a chance of keeping your dork origins a secret, but these days embarassing photos just kind of magically find their way onto the Web. I don’t even think that humans put them there; they just appear.

Case in point: Dork Yearbook. Pages and pages of exquisite, cringe-worthy photos of happy, earnest, good times-loving dorks, geeks, and nerds, collected in one place for your perusal. Here’s the Star Trek dork, posing gleefully with his phaser. Here’s the computer geek, staring fixedly at some Basic code. Here’s a gaggle of Dungeons and Dragons nerds absorbed in their favorite pastime. These pictures may make you wince, but there is not a one of us who doesn’t have a photo like this buried in a shoebox somewhere in our parent’s house, just waiting to be unearthed and displayed for the digital masses.

And if you manage to somehow spot yourself on that site — or any other, really — I urge you: don’t flinch, don’t shrink from your past. Embrace it. Honor the younger you, who had passion for all the things he was into, and who had no compunctions about going into minute detail about the goofiest things that nobody on the Outside could give two rat’s colons about. He understood what was important in life, and you could do worse than to emulate his wisdom. Own your history, and build on it! Dorks forever!
