Slingbox is doing what should have been done a long time ago: bring streaming television to your cell phone.

I’ve been sent a sneak peek of it and let me tell you – from the demo – it looks amazing. You’re basically showed your cable choices in a very streamlined slide-and-drag fashion. The demo previewed ESPN and made sports look great; although this blogger kind of wonders how confusing watching NHL hockey games (where the puck is already hard enough to see on a normal television, let alone a dinky iPhone screen) is going to be. However, the service looks stellar.

I was fortunate to see the preview on the iPhone; the service is also going to available for your Blackberry, too (but on that tiny screen? yeesh). And lets not forget that Slingbox has been making TV available remotely for a while now. Check them out here for a list of all their products.

The bandwidth available for such a thing, though, can only be left to the imagination. You’ll pretty much have to be in a wireless internet zone to access it and view it without it buffering every 30 seconds. Viewing this over a 3G network might lead to a lot of frustration, although, lets face it, this is f**king tv on your cell phone: something even a few years ago would be unimaginable. You can even favorite certain channels and certain clips. It’s pretty incredible.

There is no set release date; one imagines that Calls to the head office went unanswered, so I’m not even sure how much it is going to cost.
