You Need To Know About: Trick My Truck

If you know Pimp My Ride, MTV’s highly successful and often imitated show about the “pimping” of “rides”, you’ll be able to figure out the basic premise for Trick My Truck, a show that is currently in its 3rd season on Country Music Television.

The basis is that a trucker’s truck is so out of shape and maintenance that its sent in to the Chrome Shop Mafia (we’ll get to them in a little bit). There, the Mafia make it their business to turn the dilapidated truck into a work of what some might call art. Others might call it a themed truck. Still, the 13 year old inner child in me goes “sweeeeet!” every time they finish one of the complete trucks. For instance, a guy that rescued Hurricane Katrina victims got his decked out like a rescue vehicle. Another who lost his Mom to Breast Cancer (in, I kid you not, probably the most heartbreaking episode of the whole show) got his decked out like a Breast Cancer Awareness vehicle.

And it’s got a lot of heart, this show. It’s silly, it’s trite, but there is a certain amount of “well gosh!” hamming it up which makes you know that THEY are in on the joke that the show is basically a jumped up Pimp My Ride. I’d wager to say the show is more watchable, too. The cast has been through a recent major shake-up (allegedly due to contract negotiations) but the new cast adds the same – if not more – performance than the elder alma matter.

The current cast are really impressive and each have their own specific duties (and personalities) on the show. Ryno, the shows own personal spray paint genius, is especially talented, and makes the Manolith office cringe at the fact that they wish they’d spent more time paying attention in art class. Since the show began in 2006 it’s amassed somewhat of a cult following due to its hokey image and premise. But it’s definitely not one to miss. If you’ve ever watched and enjoyed Smokey & The Bandit or just enjoy the down-home charm of Country, this might just be your next favorite show. It’s no Sopranos, but it’s a great watch.
