A Tesla Roadster will set you back a cool $109,000. But not only will you be the coolest guy since Captain Planet with his green mullet to save the planet, you will also be driving around in such style that you will probably have to pull over every 10 miles or so to get out of the car and snap pictures of it before patting your own back due to your own awesomeness.

It’s the first electric car that doesn’t make you look like you hate your self image, let’s just put it that way. Other electric cars with the exception of a few often make you look like you bought the car at IKEA and assembled the car yourself after a few gin & tonics. Or, and I’m looking at you, Smartcar®, they make you look like you broke free from Disneyland.

This car will turns heads. Not only that, but it will turn necks, bodies, and probably turn you into a minor celebrity based on your car alone. It’s an incredible thing to look at in person – that’s for sure – and dare I say it might even be worth its hefty price tag. The specs are genuinely jaw dropping: 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds, enough torque to rival an F1, and hell, lets not forget just how rad the thing looks. And it’s incredibly light, too, with the engine being only about the size of a watermelon, this is a hell of a lot of goodness packed into a very small and light package.

If you can plug in your cell phone you can plug in your car. The drawback being that charge times are roughly 4 to 8 hours, with a single charge getting you around 250 miles. That being said, this is not a cross country driver (unless you’re into stopping every 250 miles). Also: its not a big car; I’d gather that you could fit some golf clubs in the back but not much else, so goodbye taking the family out for a weekend (unless you’re like me and your “family” consists of you and your bulldog Chaplin).

But really: this is a breakthrough. Hopefully soon, with American companies FINALLY bringing forward thinking ideas such as this to the forefront, in a few more years we’ll be done with the gas guzzling cars we’ve grown so accustomed to. This may not be THE step, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

It also uses lithium ion batteries for power which are WAAY more lightweight (and safe) than the hulking things they put in the hybrids & electrics you see out there. Of course, that's another element that helps account for the price tag, but good god, these things are hand-made! Seriously!! What do you want?!!!??!
