General Motors has teamed up with Segway to unveil a new two-seat, two-wheeled urban vehicle. The new vehicle is a part of GM’s Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility (PUMA) project – a part of GM’s new effort to reinvent itself into a more fuel-efficient vehicle producer – and it looks much like a traditional Segway except that it’s bigger and it’s enclosed. Powered through a lithium-ion battery, the electric vehicle is hoped to be seen as an inexpensive, safer, smaller and cleaner alternative to the typical gas-powered car or truck that roams our cities’ streets.

Weighing only 300 pounds the urban vehicle tops out at 35 mph and can run a total of 35 miles on a single charge – an ideal range for most city drivers. The cost is also attractive as GM officials estimate it will cost somewhere between one-fourth and one-third the price of a regular vehicle. An especially nice feature in today’s economic climate.
The “Today Show” got the inside scoop this morning with a video of the GM-Segway vehicle in action.
