what-a-girl-wants-1

I’m a pretty good listener amongst my friends and I’ve usually been the shoulder to cry on when their boyfriends have done some not-so-cool things or taken away the pints of ice cream when they tell me that they’re planning to inhale the entire thing in minutes. ( I usually get thanked for this later)  I’ve also been the one to scold them and tell them if they screwed up.  Yes, I do realize that not all guys are bad and that sometimes, we females also make mistakes.

I decided to write this post just in case you men were wanted clarification as to what the ladies in your life may want.  Regarding you guys, that is.  So here goes:

Exclusivity: Pretty standard and obvious, but in today’s world of dating, it seems as though people are always dating several people at once.  It’s almost like you’re apartment hunting and you find two amazing places, but you can’t decide what’s better.  The place with the higher rent and sick view or the cheaper rent, but ability to save a bit of extra cash.  My point?  If you care about someone or are starting to have feelings for her, why not make it exclusive? You never know what can happen.

Stability: Girls love a guy with stability in his life. What does this mean?  It means that you’re career focused, have a plan for your life, and probably have a good relationship with your family and friends.  In these changing times, girls want to know that the guy they’re dating is going to be a rock in their life.

He-Goes-To-Random-Places-You-Want-To-Go-Ness: This is not an actual word if you haven’t already guessed, but what does it mean?  Yeah, if your girl wants you to accompany her to a family outing, a shopping excursion, an art exhibit, or anything that makes you want to sit back on the couch and watch the game or go on Digg.com, make like Nike and JUST DO IT.   She’ll thank you later. Trust me.

Don’t Be a Negative Norm: Girls usually love funny dudes.  Myself included. Nothing is hotter than a guy with wit, but if you’re TOO sarcastic and mean all the time, it can be grating.  So, try to keep a positive attitude and you’ll have your girl excited to see you at all times.

Be Old School: I know we live in an equal society now and it’s all about equal opportunity, especially in the workplace.  But between the two of you, just do the chivalrous things that make girls go crazy.  Open the door for her, get her flowers, take her out to dinner, or let her take control of the remote.  Or let her watch her favorite shows on Hulu. (Got to put an Internet reference in there for those of you who haven’t watch TV in years)

Listen:  Sometimes us gals need someone to vent to, whether its annoying people at work or just problems with friends or family.  You may have mastered the art of tuning her out, but try to listen sometimes.  You may want to just shell out advice to her, but she really might want you to just listen and be there for her.  Simple but true.

Obviously I don’t know everything, but I think that my years of listening to my friends complain about their boyfriends has given me a bit of authority.  I’d love to hear what you guys think or if you’d like me to cover certain topics with dating/relationships, just leave a question in the comments section.

Peace,

Kat
