Dogs are mans best friend. If your tire blew out on the freeway at 2am, face it, you would call your dog if you could. Dog’s are rad companions and great best friends. This has inspired many a great story for the movies.
Check out our list of the coolest dogs in movies. And we’re not just talking “kinda cool”
1. Dodger (Oliver & Company, 1988)
Dodger was so bad ass that he rode on the tops of cop cars while singing Billy Joel songs. Tell me that is not the most bad ass thing you could actually do. Not only that but he was voiced by Billy Joel, too. How cool is that? Not only did dude marry Christine Brinkley but he did voice overs for bad ass cartoon dogs. The kind that wear sunglasses and talk like the Fonz. How cool is that? That is so cool.

2. Hooch (Turner & Hooch, 1989)
Hooch was to Tom Hanks what sunglasses were to Bob Dylan. They made him infinitely cooler and more bad ass. Because dude had the coolest dog ever! Look at that thing, all slobberin’ around like it ain’t no big deal! And he’s going to help you solve a crime, too! You don’t want to miss out on this fun, people! But seriously: I remember being 6 and wanting this dog so bad because it was just so cool.

3. Beethoven (Beethoven, Beethoven’s 2nd: 1991, 1992)
This was like a dog version of Problem Child, the film about the kid that – well, created lots of problems for his father. The dog keeps bumping into things but ultimately brings the family together. Much like some of our own family members, am I right? We can all relate to this.

4. Otis (The Mask, 1994)
The dog not only became something out of an early Hanna Barbara cartoon when he put on the mask, but he spent the vast majority of the movie just walking around chilling with Jim Carey, which is not an easy thing to do, especially as this was the height of Jim’s “I AM A CRAZY GUY” schtick.

5. Buster (The Wonder Years, 1990)
This is not a movie dog, but it makes the same impact that Ol Yeller or any other screen dog did over its admittedly short admission into the show. It never became the classic sitcom dog – there were never tight shots of it tilting its head, or hiding under a sheet, or anything cheesy. It was Kevin’s dog, simple as that. They chilled out and did things you did with your dog when you were that age. That is why dog was so cool: he was your dog.

Hooch is certainly an all-time great kind of dog. much better than dogs like Air Bud or Marley.

As the owner of a Dogue De Bordeaux, I totally agree that Hooch is one of the coolest. However, there's also ALL of the dogs in "Eight Below"! They were pretty great.
