It’s no secret that Michael Bay is a crazy, crazy director. He’s pioneered the “mouth-open watching things explode a whole bunch” style of movie making, and for good reason. Because every movie he has done is 100% Man-Tastic. You might as well be given a pack of beef jerky and a Lay-Z-Boy upon entering any movie theater playing one of his movies. Except Pearl Harbor. That movie sucked.

We at Manolith tried to list the Top 5 best Michael Bay moments, so here goes:

5) Bad Boys II

I’ve had a thing for Gabrielle Union since Bring It On and here she is in some completely insane car chase action with Will Smith. It really brings out the best in everyone. Insane jump-edits and lots of action. This is how Michael Bay does car chases.

4) Pearl Harbor

Ben Affleck and Cuba Gooding Jr? Really? Well, then. It’s not like this movie was ever going to win any awards for brilliant casting… but the dude from Mallrats?

The only thing I’ve found that makes this movie bearable is this Youtube video where someone has edited it with fantasy metal. It actually makes the movie totally bad ass and makes me with Michael Bay would re-release it as Pearl Harbor: Fantasy Metal Edition.

3) The Rock

Ah, the 90’s. Lets not kid ourselves: this mid-90’s gnarly bro-fest of a movie starring Sean Connery and Nick Cage was actually released by dvd-label-du-jour label Critereon Collection. Yes, the same DVD company that releases twee Latvian period dramas released this thoroughly awesome shoot-em-up. There is a God, folks.

Needless to say, this is the scene where a lot of people get shot in the shower room on Alcatraz. Mayhem ensues. Michael Bay 1, Rest of the World 0.

2) Armageddon

This is how Michael Bay does drama. Note the Incredibly Serious Music in the background. Note the Dramatic Bruce Willis. “Prepare the world for bad news”. It is obvious that Michael Bay is a genius.

1) Meatloaf

Yes, great minds think alike, and for a brief moment in the early 90’s Michael Bay directed a bevvy of Meat Loaf’s music videos. They were all mini movies, with Meat Loaf’s operatic vocals pinning the video down to a T. This one stars a yet-undiscovered Angelia Jolie, proving that Michael Bay is at least 7 years ahead of our time.
