NASCAR fans might be upset with President Obama after he said he would pull GM and Chrysler as sponsors from NASCAR if they decide to take the bailout money. NASCAR has been suffering a lot lately after more and more sponsors are spending less on teams due to the recession.

Obama says that if both companies withdraw as sponsors for NASCAR, they would be saving an estimated $250 million dollars. Nobody truly cares about NASCAR so I think Obama is doing the right thing. I’d rather see that $250 million go into people’s pockets instead of on NASCAR races.

It will be interesting to see if the President’s approval ratings go down in the Midwest and South after his annoucement. Here’s Obama had to say about his decision:

“In order to receive this money, corporations must demonstrate they will spend it wisely. Racing has been said to improve on-road technology, but frankly, NASCAR almost flaunts its standing among the lowest-tech forms of motorsport. NASCAR is not proven to drive advancements that transfer from the racetrack to the road, and this nation’s way forward does not hinge on decades-old technology. We need new, and we need innovation.”

I voted for Obama and love NASCAR. Aside from what I like or think - if NASCAR went down think about all the things that are tied to it in the economy!
