Google Earth’s street view might be the scariest Big Brother-esque application on anyone’s computer, but I’ll have to admit it’s a lot of fun nerding out checking on your old apartment. Or your ex girlfriends apartment. Not that I’ve done that at all. But sometimes you get these great looks into the goings on of Americana on that fateful day(s) that the Google people drove by and recorded you doing whatever you were doing. Here’s some of the best:

Huh. Well look at that. Which is great in theory, but in practice bums me out here.

Here, two nerds battle it out. It’s called LARPing, or ‘Live Action Role Playing’. I’ve been told its very addictive and thrilling and fun but look! They’re playing with cardboard swords! They’re probably over 18! Oh, social awkwardness!

Here, the Google truck killed a deer. Which is funny, because they filmed it for everyone to see. You thought that Google was infallible? It kills deer, people.

Looks like those guys are actually part of the society of creative anachronism... larping always looked pretty weak, but i gotta give it to the SCA guys. They wrap their weapons tightly with duck tape but it really doesn't make it any better when you get hit in the head, even with a helmet on

Look at the rest of Sampsonia Way. The modern art museum on that street made an arrangement with Google Earth to let them set up scenes down the street in a way to make it seem like a coincidence. Seriously. Check it out.

I'm not sure reporting Google (to whom? it's against the law to accidentally kill deer with trucks?) is going to make a lick of difference, Amber. Might as well report the trucks that deliver your produce - I guarantee you those big-rigs flatten all kinds of animals. If Google actually did intend to hit the deer, which I doubt (it costs money to fix the damage a large animal causes), they are most deserving of your ire, the demons.

Could somebody please tell me where I was when I passed out? The owner of the house I passed out in front of took my keys so I couldn't drive. I really need the keys back, and I can't remember where it was, by the time the DT's were over and I got released from the County lock up, I blanked out the place. The Keys are to my Mom's car, and we don't have another set! She now has to go to work by bus after getting a lift to the bus stop. Please if anybody knows the address please post it for me. That "Larp" is in fact Dagorhir and not the SCA. http://www.dagorhir.com/ The "swords" are foam padded fiberglass rods. The shield is 1/2" ply-wood with fowm and cloth coverings for safety. This short is not part of the street with a view project. This guys play here every week to spar and practice in full costume. This is a lagitimate action shot. Though they don't normally fight so close to the road...

The beam is nothing... it's probably the result of taking a photo of the sun directly, you'll find thousands of them on street view if you look, it's nothing special. The google car is in fact a CAR not a truck, I've seen them it's an ordinary car with a camera mounted on the roof, again, nothing special.

Oh yeah, and the deer thing was obviously unintentional. If the driver meant to do it he'd have been fired quickly. Not many people hit deer for fun especially not in a company vehicle. Saying you're not using Google because one of the street view cars accidentally hit a deer is a moronic statement.

The deer getting hit...It's too bad, but it doesn't mean Google was evil. It just means that deer are REALLY stupid and suicidal. I have had four deer hit my vehicle within one month, two of them in one evening...they get spooked or something just as a vehicle gets close to them, and then dash out in fear, right in front of the vehicle. It sucks to hit a deer, but...

*sigh* Who cares? They're nothing more than edible god damn nuisances... On another note concerning animal rights.. I will not be doing a damn thing to save the polar bears either.
