While it might not be the classy men’s literature that once was and now resembles Cosmopolitan for the 30-50 year old male, Esquire used to be quite the magazine. With fiction from the likes of Hemingway, Truman Capote, Elizabeth Gilbert, and some of the best design work of the last century from George Lois, Esquire is yeah, I’ll say it, quite bad ass.

If you’re into that sort of thing, they’ve scanned every single cover. This is a lot of fun for those of us who are still into magazines. Check out the April 1968 cover of Muhammed Ali being shot with arrows. Hell, you can even check out the completely awful mid 80’s covers (like this gaudy one from the month of my birth, check it out!!!).
Yeah, the mid 80’s were pretty heinous, but if you look at some of the ones from the 90’s too you have to wonder: who let Bruce Willis on the cover at least once every year? Seriously. He must have some dirt on the editor or something.
