Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a Thai fireman with a sense of humor and a weird coincidence? You bet it’s the latter.
After a special education student – on his first day of school, Lord bless ‘im – got scared and climbed out of a window, a fireman sent to the scene upon learning that the child liked Spiderman rushed back to his Fireman’s locker and got out his trusty Spiderman outfit. He donned the outfit and returned to the school and to the ledge where he offered the student a juice drink if he came down. The story ended well, with a photo op for the new Spiderman in front of the gathering cameras.
The kid couldn’t be coaxed back into the classroom by teachers or faculty, and it wasn’t until an offhand comment made by the childs mother that fireman Somchai Yoosabai had a lightbulb go off in his head to go back and get the costume, saving the day.
You can’t make awesome stories like this up. The fireman had the costume for when he needed to jazz up student assemblies; needless to say, the outcome couldn’t have proved any better use.
What a heartwarming story.
Here at the Manolith office, our editor, Sean Percival, wept at his desk with the aplomb and sincerity of a small girl who had skinned her knee.
