Alaska Airlines flights canceled flights after Mt. Redoubt in Alaska erupted at around 10:38 Sunday evening. So far, no injuries or fatalities have been recorded and the nearest populated city is over 100 miles away in Skwentna. The volcano was predicted to blow for a couple of months now and came as no surprise to the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
Located 110 miles from Anchorage, Mt. Redoubt sent ashes over 50,000 feet above sea level after the initial eruption. Locals in Skwentna hadn’t heard the eruptions Sunday night, but reported ash on the snow the next morning, hinting an eruption had occurred.
Scientist report that the last eruption of Mt. Redoubt occurred on and off in 1989-90 for about 6 months. They believe the same fate will occur the 2nd time around. A total of 19 flights were canceled to Anchorage by Alaska Airlines, due to the ash clouds associated with the eruption.

At least no one was killed or injured. I bet it would be crazy to actually see the volcano in action...I wonder if the locals have some sort of viewing party during the eruptions lol
