Chickolith: Tila Tequila

While I will never fully understand the deeper meaning behind having over a million “friends” on tween social networking site Myspace… you have to admit that, even just for a little bit, Tila captured a moment.

Sure, it might have been a moment where society was drunk on its own wine – where EVERYBODY could find ANYBODY and you had to be POPULAR – I mean, come on man, it was the 2000’s – we were all doing it. We were all drinking the Kool Aid and Tila was the big red jug that broke down that wall. She was (one of?) the first to have a million fucking friends on Myspace, man! She DID it. She MADE it. This was back when driving a Hummer was still totally acceptable.

And then came the magazine covers, the reality show, and her star has since waned, but what a great moment she captured for a minute. She was for a brief moment during those George Bush years our own Cultural Party Barometer, appearing at every party in Los Angeles, and for a minute – well – she was a brilliant reminder of our own self absorption. A giant winking babbling party head that didn’t care that there were two wars going on and our natural resources were being sold back to us at minibar prices. To hell with that. There was a hot babe on the damn internet! And she wanted to be our friend.

Here’s to you, Tila. A shot of love, and a chaser of you.
