March Madness Continues: The 2009 National Invite Tournament (NIT)

Everyone knows that March Madness includes the NCAA’s Annual Division I Basketball Championship, but less are aware that it also includes the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). This second tournament is very similar to its better known brother in that it takes place during the same time period, it features Division I Basketball teams, and it is also single elimination. The one big difference however is that the NIT only selects teams (32 in total) that were not picked to participate in the Big Dance. So it’s a bit of a runners-up tournament.

That said, it is still exciting basketball and it is still involves great basketball teams. In fact, some of this year’s best teams such as San Diego State and Creighton will be playing in the tournament. So be sure to channel in for at least a few of these games.

Also, for the procrastinating bracketeer who ran out of time on their NCAA brackets, the NIT is here to give you a second chance, as it doesn’t begin for another day (March 17th). So pick quick. Here’s a printable bracket to get you on your way.
