If you’ve seen Tropic Thunder or The Foot Fist Way you’ll know what I’m talking about; it’s no suprise to anyone that Danny McBride has become a near ubiquitous presence in comedy the last couple of years. He’s got the kind of presence that can only be described as a being as blunt as a hammer and sharp as a karate chop. With a laser on it too, so he’s like a karate chop with a hammer and a laser. Totally. His southern drawl is as thick as BBQ sauce and his near-mullet is as totally awesome as his stage presence (or my bad analogy about BBQ sauce, take your pick). The story being that back in 2002 while shooting “All The Real Girls”, director David Gordon Green had one of the supporting actors drop out last minute so he asked his friend Danny to fill in. And lo, history was made.
You’ve probably seen him in Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, All The Real Girls, and the criminally under-rated The Foot Fist Way (which in my book should earn him an Oscar). Now he’s got his own show on HBO called ‘East Bound & Down’, which, if you’ve seen the pilot, looks completely gob-smackingly amazing. Total, total, total Manolith.com salute to Mr McBride. Seriously, if you have not seen The Foot Fist Way you are missing out on one of the best comedy movies of the last decade.

danny mcbride is funny, sure, but he needs a new act. as a side character the lazer-hammer-karate-chop works. but as a main character? of a TV series?
i guess we’ll see.
