You like them vidja games, right? Of course you do. You’re a right-thinking individual with happy memories of a childhood misspent playing twitchfest games on your Sega Genesis when you should have been outside getting exercise and working on learning how to talk to those mysterious creatures called gurls. My people. Well, now’s your chance to put those hours of expertise to some use.

From March 16 – April 8, online games magazine The Escapist is holding its March Mayhem Developer Showdown, where registered participants will get to vote for their favorite game developer of 2009. Voting begins on the 19th, and each round lasts 24 hours, until finally the ultimate developer is revealed on the 8th. The whole thing will proceed bracket-style, just like your March Madness event, though of course much, much cooler. There are categories for divisions from the North, South, East, and West, with an additional “Great Eight” category.

This’ll be interesting. What makes a great developer great? Does it hinge upon the financial success of a title? How popular it is? What about the full body of work? Is a developer ever too popular to be considered? Last year’s winner was Turbine, Inc., makers of the Lord of the Rings Online MMO, taking the win over Rock Band’s Harmonix. Who’d'a thought? If you’re interested in all this insanity, register here and start thinking about your favorite developer, because the 16th is on its way!
