Jim Hellwig a.k.a Ultimate Warrior now legally known as Warrior is a favorite with many WWF fans from the late 80s. For some reason those amongst us who didn’t quite like Hulk Hogan gravitated to Warrior. Two of his matches stand out in collective memory, one against Hulk Hogan in Wrestlemania VI and the other against Macho Man Randy Savage, Wrestlemania VII. He was big for wrestlers of the time, an imposing 6′3″ frame with 275 pounds of muscle slapped on it.
Like many pro-wrestlers before him, Warrior was a practicing bodybuilder winning the Mr. Georgia title in 1984. He aspired to become a chiropractor but fate had other plans and he caught the eyes of wrestling promoters in Tennessee.
Warrior probably has had the most number of memorable comebacks of any WWF superstar; the 90s saw him come, fight, disappear only to come back again. I still enjoy videos and snips of his fights, the arm bands, face mask, the high-energy entry into the arena – his act was a practiced one that had evolved to a nicety. Today Warrior is trying to carve a career as a motivational speaker. An erudite warrior, hmm… I’d like to hear what he has to say. His website does offer some clues on his philosophy to life and work.
