Here’s a rat powered clock for those who want some vacuous amusement whenever they wish to check the time. It’s a neat idea with a very real-looking mechanical rat running on a treadmill. The battery-powered rat powers the clock. The assembly is in an attractive metal casing with an intricate 12-gear mechanism.
The rat has a keen sense of time and every single rotation of the treadmill pushes the minute-hand forward and when the time comes the hour hand moves too. No information on whether the rat squeaks every hour like in a cuckoo clock.
I am thinking and I am given to bouts of thinking, replace the rat with us and the 4D and 2AA batteries with coffee and some takeaway shit and we have a universal truth being played out in front of our eyes. The rat’s me, one fearful beady eye on the clock and the other on the computer, ears open for the boss’s raspy voice which may well say that this was the last deadline I let slip by and am just not worth it in these times of recession.
