If you’ve turned on a TV in the last year you’re bound to have seen the, dare I say it, iconic infomercial that is The ShamWow. It features a guy with a strange almost Bostonian accent giving you an almost snake-oil salesman run down of what apparently is an amazing towel. Yep. Towel. His name is Vince Offer. Two years ago he was a nobody; nowadays he is ubiquitous with late 00′s television.
While this may not seem that monumental, it’s simply all in this guy’s delivery. He stands there against the blue background and gives you a 30 second run down of what it can do (hint: it dries things). And by the end, you’re left wanting more. Keep in mind this is ALL in his delivery. It’s somewhere between nutjob-at-the-bus-stop and Worlds Fair presenter. You can watch the amazing infomercial here.
Turn’s out the guy is a comedian, and he started in the spokesperson game by appearing as one in the straight-to-DVD “The Underground Comedy Movie”. Somehow, somewhere along the line, it went from simple parody to a real job. It appears he’s pissed off a lot of people too: suing both 20th Century Fox and the late Anna Nicole Smith.
