Fake Cigarette, Real Cool?

Blue cigarettes

From the country that brought you Jean-Claude Van Damme comes Blue, the revolutionary new electronic cigarette from SuperSmoker. Yes, you read right: electronic cigarette. This device is a tobacco-less nicotine delivery product that makes the user look like he’s inhaling an actual traditional cig, but without the horrible smell and cancer risk. It may sound crazy, and hell, it probably is, but I saw one of these the other day and was completely fooled for all of a minute before I realized something odd was going on.

Here’s how it works: the Blue device is a thin cylinder that looks just like a regular old cancerstick. You plug one of the included 24 cartridges into the back of the device. Once that’s done, the nicotine gel contained in the cartridge is atomized with each inhalation. At the same time, the tip of the device — where you’d expect to see a red glow — burns blue with an LED diode. The atomized smoke is emitted, you get that great nicotine rush to the system, and everyone walking by satisfactorily notes how cool you look with your Blade Runner-esque smoking gadget.

SuperSmoker’s website makes careful mention that Blue is not a smoking cessation device, though they do have cartridges available in Zero, Light, Normal, and Menthol strengths with varying levels of nicotine. This seems like a much better alternative to the patch — especially for those hoping-to-be-ex-smokers who also crave the feel of sucking on the cig itself.

Blue costs $139 for the starter kit, and $18.95 per 24 cartridge replacement pack. You can get more information directly from the SuperSmoker website. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a lifetime of missing out on smoking-related hipness to catch up with.
