Samuel L Jackson has signed on to a 9 picture deal to play the character Nick Fury in various Marvel movies. This is a big deal: Nick Fury is the glue that binds all of The Avengers together.
If you stayed past the end credits of Iron Man you’d have seen Samuel L Jackson try to recruit Tony Stark for The Avengers. Yes, it’s there. Yes, I walked out before I saw it, too. It’s an integral part of the Marvel universe and Samuel L Jackson knows it: the current incarnation of the character is based exactly on his likeness.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that there’ll be 9 pictures called ‘Nick Fury’. Samuel L Jackson will merely appear AS this character in 9 movies. The Avengers – whch in the comic books includes Iron Man, Captain America, and The Hawk amongst others – is promising to be a major movie franchise in the coming years.
Luckily Marvel knows this and are working on a great cast. With Seth Rogan’s “The Hornet” being directed by movie visionary Michel Gondry, and now Samuel L Jackson to appear in 9 “Avengers” related flicks, this is looking to be a great time for comic book movies.
