Close on the heels of Obama’s slip regarding the invention of the automobile comes this gaffe from Joe Biden worthy of being listed as a true Bushism. In the course of an interview on CBS Early Show, the vice president asked viewers to check out a government website tracking the stimulus spending. Unfortunately, Biden could not remember the website address and said to an aide standing off camera “You know, I’m embarrassed. Do you know the Web site number?” “I should have it in front of me and I don’t. I’m actually embarrassed.” Embarrassed at not having a website’s “number”!!!
The site in question is www.recovery.gov and is getting around 3,000 hits per second. It’s an appreciable effort on part of the Obama administration to provide information and clarity on how the stimulus money is being used. And let’s not forget that the Obama camp is very web savvy. It rewrote the rules of political fundraising by tapping into the Internet and then after all this to have a guy like Biden ask for a site’s “number”.
What’s funny or scary about this gaffe by Biden is that this was his second one regarding the very same website. On February 20th, during the U.S. Conference of Mayors he directed people to Recovery.com. Lucky website… getting free publicity from no less a personality than the veep. But this does beg the question, how could Biden make a slip the second time round. Don’t they have some informed guys working behind the curtains to help the politicians look good?
