Penelope Cruz arrives at the 81st annual Academy Awards

Mega hottie Penelope Cruz just won Best Supporting Actress at the 2009 Oscars for her role in Vicky Christina Barcelona.

In her acceptance speech she said “art has been and always will be our universal language”. She then said something in Spanish that I could not understand, nor could anyone at Manolith, because we only got to 2nd level Spanish.

This isn’t the first time she’s been nominated – that would be in 2006 for ‘Volver’ – but this would be the first time she’s won. Since breaking through in her native Spain in the early 90’s she gradually made the shift to a Hollywood A-lister in the early 2000’s.

Vicky Christina Barcelona also starred Javier Bardiem and Scarlett Johannson and was directed by Woody Allen.
