“Wii Fit Actually Works” says Famous Baseball Dude

By Ned Hepburn on February 18th, 2009

Here’s a good news item… hands up who owns a Wii. That’d be about 40,000,000 of you worldwide. Now hands up who owns Wii Fit. That’d be another 14,000,000 of you.

Now, the great thing about the Wii Fit is that it relies on you – the player – to work your own damn ass off. However that is where the logic works against itself, as most people (like me!) are lazy as hell and don’t really feel like working out. After an AP news article came out less than a month ago declaring the Wii Fit does not work, it left a few of us wondering “does it really, really work?”. The question being: will you actually lose weight?

The answer is “yes”, according to San Diego Padres pitcher Heath Bell, who started using it religiously after being unhappy with the way his Mii avatar looked.

From the AP:

“It said I was obese,” Bell said. “If you’re obese, it makes (your character on screen) obese. I was disappointed that I was that big. I literally took the game to heart. I did the work, but I kind of credit the Wii Fit.”

This is great news for us couch potatos out there looking for a little more motivation. If Heath can do it, so can you, so dust off that balance board and use it for once.
