The 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest takes place on Saturday, February 14th at 8pm EST. TNT will be airing Saturday nights festivities, including the PlayStation skills challenge and 3-point shootout. Phoenix, Arizona is looking forward to hosting the 58th Annual NBA All-Star Game/Weekend, especially after the close Super Bowl loss suffered two weeks ago.

The NBA Slam Dunk Competition is often the most talked about event during all-star weekend. The Flashy dunks and creative props make for a dazzling show, put on by the best basketball performers in the world.

This year’s slam-dunk competition will be the first of its kind. The NBA decided to let the fans choose one player out of four, to be in the dunk contest. They decided on Rudy Fernandez, the Spanish phenom from the Portland Trailblazers.

Nate Robinson, Rudy Gay and “Superman” himself Dwight Howard will be the three other contestant’s in this year’s slam-dunk competition. Nate Robinson and Dwight Howard are the two previous winners both going for their second title while Rudy Gay is out to seek redemption after last year’s loss.

UPDATE: J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets will be replacing an injured Rudy Gay to round up the Slam-Dunk lineup.
