Channeling Andy Kaufman he sure is, because Joaquin Phoenix steals pretty much the entire night of television away from everyone else.

If you didn’t watch this performance art and/or gigantic public meltdown on David Letterman, you missed out on probably the most memorable interview on late night television of the year outside of Obama. Is Joaquin acting? Is he deep in a part? A known method actor – where one immerses themselves fully in the character – Joaquin may just have the last laugh.

This is pure, pure television gold and worth watching even if you just scratch your head. For a reminded, this is a video of him before hand. Normal, right? Watch this after you watch the above clip, before they take it down. It’s truly legendary.

Without further ado, the earlier work:

Joaquin Phoenix doing hip hop? That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever herd. He’s such a great actor, just read the great reviews of Walk the Line and Gladiator on EverHype (and add you own at www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc). I think he’s making a graceful exit from Hollywood with this interview.

Joaquin likes to take roles as the odd one out, but that works for him as an actor so this interview with Letterman might complement his career

No genius here; the stoned out Phoenix's arse be RUDE. When one is a guest, s/he has social obligations. That odd bastard not only insulted his host, he reminded me of my whacked out uncle who we do not invite to Christmas, etc. because his personal hygiene is deficient. No one wants to be near him cuz he smells of BO and his beard has weird organisms in it, You actually mean to tell me that people spend money to see my whacked out, smelly uncle in films? Ay, me, no wonder our country is screwed, I'd have merely invited you all to one of our family gatherings for the price of a casserole......
