Seemingly trying to just be total assholes, the Boston police force arrested artist Shephard Fairey – creator of the iconic Barack Obama ‘Hope’ poster – for graffiti late on Friday night.
The best part is that this arrest stems from the 1990′s. That’s right. Because when you arrest an artist, you do it on his “early work”. Classy, Boston. Classy.
His “Obey Giant” stickers were posted all over several major during the 1990′s, also spurring now a major clothing brand. He was arrested right before the opening party for an exhibition of his work at the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art. And now the Boston Police Dept thinks it’s OK to arrest him for posters he put up some 13 years ago? He is to be arraigned tomorrow, Monday, to be charged for two counts of defacing public property.
