It is expected that approximately 1 billion people around the world will be tuning in to watch America’s biggest sporting event of the year: Super Bowl XLIII. On February 1st 2009, the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa Bay, FL. Kick-off is scheduled for a 6:20 EST start time on NBC with the National Anthem being performed by former American Idol contestant and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.

Super Bowl Sunday has become more than just a football match between the two best teams in the NFL. With various concerts and interactive events scheduled throughout the week, this event has become more of an annual festival.

The Super Bowl Bash presented by Pepsi Smash is a two-day event featuring Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Lifehouse and Grammy award winner Enrique Iglesias. R&B crooner, T-Pain will also be hosting his own Super Bowl party this weekend presented by Vibe Magazine and Mixcast.

  4. Always have to laugh about the one billion misquotation!

The one-billion figure is a misquotation by some media outlets as the actual global audience, instead of the audience who would technically be able(!!!) to watch the game. In fact, independent studies suggest that the average global viewership is just a bit over 100 million.

The only sport event which would get at least close to the one billion viewership would be the world cup final in soccer.
