Kobe Bryant once again claimed the title of having the best-selling NBA jersey. Kobe’s No. 24 Lakers jersey overtook Kevin Garnett’s Celtics jersey, knocking Garnett into second place. The numbers are based on sales at the NBA Store in New York City and NBAStore.com since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.
Bryant used to wear No. 8, but switched to 24 about two years ago. Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers currently lead the NBA’s Western Conference with the best record. Meanwhile, Bryant is listed near the top of the league’s best players and is an 11-time All-Star. Bryant’s jersey rounds out the top five best selling, followed by Garnett, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Allen Iverson.
Despite being charged with rape a few years ago and whining to referees every single time a call doesn’t go in his favor, Kobe Bryant has managed to maintain his high level of popularity. The Lakers are also one of the biggest bandwagon teams in professional sports, which undoubtedly contributes to his jersey being popular not just in the United States, but all over the world.
That being said, could there be hope for disgraced NFL quarterback Michael Vick regaining his stature when (and if) he returns to football? Not bloody likely.
