The Optimus Maximus Keyboard, designed by the Russian design studio Art Lebedev, leaves all other keyboards behind in the functionality, prettiness, and price stakes. The poetically named keyboard has a 113 programmable keys and each key features a tiny OLED screen. It costs a little more than $1500. Yup, you read that right!
There’s a lot you can do with this cool keyboard – having so many programmable keys with a screen on each means endless opportunities for amusement. Have one key tell you the time and play GIF files on another. Use sundry other keys to inform you on CPU usage, CPU temperature, network speed, and memory usage. Each key has a 48 x 48 resolution and a refresh rate of 10 frames per second. A layer function lets you use key combinations in different ways. You can run applications on the Optimus Maximus Keyboard such that each key has an image representing a function from that particular application.
Each removable key is a unit consisting of a cap, a microchip, and a display.
