Sunny Miami Florida will be hosting its 75th annual BCS Orange Bowl Jan. 1st 2009 between Virginia Tech and Cincinnati.

It’s your classic “Cinderella Story” for the Cincinnati Bearcats, who are better known for their Jordan Brand sponsored basketball team then their relatively unknown football program. Nonetheless, there ready to show repeat Orange Bowl contenders, Virgina Tech that basketball isn’t the only sport in their arsenal.

Looking to win their first Bowl game since 2006, the (9-4) Virgina Tech Hokies will be appearing in their 16th consecutive BCS game and 2nd consecutive Orange Bowl appearance. Odds may be against this national powerhouse based on the fact that three of their starters are likely to be sitting out due to academic ineligibility and injuries.

Predictions are in and here some of the results:

USA Today- Cincinnati W21-20

NBC Sports- Cincinnati W17-10

ESPN- Virgina Tech W24-16

BleacherReport.com- Virgina Tech W20-17

The last time these two teams met in a bowl game, Cincinnati won. Granted that was the Sun Bowl of 1947, the No. 12 Bearcats do look like the favorites in this series. However, the No. 21 Hokies have something to prove, after having lost last year’s Orange Bowl to the Kansas Jayhawks.
