When I first read about Gynecomastia or man boobs, my first reaction was of disbelief and the second was to surreptitiously glance down my neck to see if all was okay with me. Upon satisfaction that I am fine, I proceeded to read further.
The thing with gynecomastia is that it is one of those few physical conditions that can have a profound psychological effect on the individual. And it can happen to anyone – from neonates to adolescents to the aged. Medical scientists have yet to pinpoint the exact causes of the condition but it can be triggered by steroids; medical drugs such as cimetidine, omeprazole, spironolactone, imatinib mesylate, finasteride; alcohol; marijuana; and conditions such as cancer of the pituitary and the testicles. It does not cause any physiological pain but the mental trauma can be considerable, especially if you have to deal with bouncing tissue when you run or worse you start lactating, Yup even that can happen!!
The condition is a fairly common one with plastic surgeons in America placing it as the number one cause for visits to their clinics by men. Obese men are considered particularly susceptible to it though excessive weight loss can also cause the tissues in the area to sag.
Check out this video on Gynecomastia where a bodybuilder discusses his experience with the condition.
