Can Am Spyder

By The Manolith Team on December 9th, 2008

The Can Am Spyder is a three-wheeler, a tricycle for grown ups basically except that it has two wheels in front and one in the rear giving it what the company calls a “Y” factor. It is priced at $US16,199 for the Can Am Spyder SM5 and $US17,699 for Can Am Spyder SE5. These are MSRP prices and do not include the cost of freight, taxes, licensing, registration, and pre-delivery inspection.

At the heart of the machine is a 998 cc, liquid-cooled, 8-valve, DOHC, V-twin engine. The Can-Am allows you to experience the thrill of riding fast without the balance issues associated with motorcycles, according to BRP which manufactures it this roadster also offers you some of the peace of mind associated with a car. It is designated a recreational product by the manufacturers so I guess, you cannot take it to office.

The Spyder will surely find takers amongst those who wish to fulfill their need for speed but not at the cost of any of the wheels lifting off the ground. The Vehicle Stability System (VSS) cuts the engine and initiates a braking mechanism should any wheel lift off the ground. The Can-Am features simplified braking, a true reverse gear, power steering and an optional electric shift transmission.

Check out the Can-Am vehicles at the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show.
