According to multiple sources cited by the ESPN, USC’s offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has been picked for the head coaching position with the Washington Huskies. The entire search for a coach has been shrouded in secrecy, with candidates coming from far and wide to interview for the position. While confirming that he did interview on Wednesday, Sarkisian refused to confirm the reports that he has the job. Washington Athletic Director Scott Woodward also refused to comment on the situation Thursday night as well. So, while we’re waiting for “official” word of Sarkisian’s selection (which will probably come in the next day or two), let’s take a look at who he is and what he can bring to the Huskies.
Steve Sarkisian is currently 34 years old and has been running the offensive show over at USC for two years. He also spent some time with the Oakland Raiders, as the quarterback coach in 2004. He started his college football career with BYU, where he led the Cougars to a 13-1 winning season back in 1996 as their quarterback. In fact, he still holds the collegiate record for the best completion percentage in a signle game: a whopping 91.2% (31 out of 34). After college he went north of the border for three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL.
To recap, here’s the scoop. Officially, no one has confirmed Steve Sarkisian’s selection as the Washington Huskies’ new head coach. However, mutliple sources from ESPN as well as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer have reported on the topic, citing insider information confirming that he has been choosen. Stay tuned for more on this evolving story, as I’m sure there’s official news just around the corner.
