The standard bar is a long solid metal pole which allows the user to put circular weights on both ends. This gravity resistance provides anyone who exercises with them a chance to improve their muscle mass while becoming stronger and healthier. Although standard bars are not for everyone, they have provided a way for individuals to work their upper torso for some years and will continue to do so. Most sizes are standard, but there are a number of smaller bars for child or teens depending on their needs.

The exercises you can do with the standard bar is limited, but is nonetheless an effective exercise tool. For instance, you can do a number of chest exercises to build your upper torso. You can also do lower exercises such as squats, but it is very important to do so in a safe fashion in order to avoid injury. Most standard bars are used with bench presses and workout benches, providing a location to keep the bar and weights during use and when not in use. Although some of the exercises are limited, they are nonetheless a very effective means of working out.

One of the best things about the standard bar is why it is the traditional way of lifting weights; it is still a great way to build muscle and set your own weight level. You are able to add as much weight as you would like to, increasing the weight you will have to life or push away. This is also one of the few pieces of exercise equipment where you can keep adding to the weight far above other pieces of equipment. The standard bell holds more weight than any other model. In addition, it is a cost effective means of being able to work out.

However, there are a number of safety concerns over the use of a standard bar. For instance, you must have someone spot you if you wish to safely perform your exercises. Ignoring this safety requirement means you could be endangering your physical health or even your life if you accidentally drop the bar onto your throat. In addition, there is no safety catch as with other pieces of equipment, and therefore your body is at the mercy of the weights if you are unable to hold it up. Should this occur, you may be unable to extricate yourself without assistance and will possibly end up hurting yourself in the process.

Although there are some safety concerns with using the standard bar, it is still one of the most effective and traditional methods of exercising with weights and is still found in all gyms. Although models like BowFlex and other products have begun to offer alternative designs, none can match the simplicity or the overall effectiveness of the standard bar. For any exercise enthusiast, the standard bar represents an excellent way to get in shape and become a stronger and more physically fit individual.
