Stair steppers are used for multiple things, they are used for exercise that is related to aiding weight loss, they are used to rehabilitate after reconstructive surgery, cross-train for sports, and moderate blood pressure levels. Stair steppers also provide excellent cardiovascular and aerobic workouts. Resistance and speed levels on most units are adjustable according to your own preference. For an effective workout with a stair stepper, you should step up for at least 20 minutes every session and at least three sessions per week.

There are a variety of stair steppers including the non mechanized which function with use of air pistons but the problem is that they are not fast enough so the workouts really aren’t as effective as the other kinds. A mechanized stair stepper provides better cardiovascular and aerobic workouts compared to the non-mechanized stepper. They are more commonly found in fitness centers and health clubs.

Staircase Ergo meters are the first versions of the mechanized stepper, resembling small escalators and most include control settings that adjust distance, speed, intensity, and time. The most common type of stair stepper available today is the pedal steppers. These can be used in a gym setting or at home. Most models include settings for controlling intensity, time, distance, and speed. They are further categorized as linked pedal (uses linked pedal action) and independent (uses independent action) steppers.

When buying your stair stepper look at a few things before just jumping in on the purchase, look at the frame and make sure that it is strong and durable as these will last the longest. Give it a test run and make sure it doesn’t tilt one way or wobble while you are using it. Choose a stepper that comes with a heart rate monitor. Whenever possible, get a stepper that has a built-in program for workouts.

Stair climbers are considered to be the third most popular choice in home exercise equipment that is available today. Stair steppers are simple to use since they simulate the beneficial action of climbing up stairs. Once you build up this group of large muscles, the effects on your metabolism will be significant because a faster metabolic rate equals more calories burned. As great as these machines are, it is important to use them correctly, or you can end up wasting your time and not getting the benefits you desire.

With proper exercise on a stair climber, meaning correct posture and not leaning your body weight on the rails of the machine, you can get the maximum workout. Not only will a stair climber help to build and tone your lower body, but the result of using it will improve your level of energy and your sense of balance as well. Stair climbers also come in quite a wide range of prices too. The most expensive stair steppers on the market include small onboard computers that will calculate the number of calories that you burn during a workout session. A good stair climber can be the main part of your home fitness center and because you can also watch TV, listen to music or read at the same time, you are more likely to use it regularly.
