Sprains are one of the more well known sports injuries, simply because they happen to a lot of different people, and can even happen to those who are basic amateurs in their sports. People tend to think of sprains as simple ankle sprains, just because they are the biggest sprains to happen; nearly everyone who plays a sport has had an ankle sprain at some point. They have known what happens, and they often figure out how to take care of them. They think of the icing, and then the heating, to try to treat all of the ligaments. Truth is, there are multiple types of sprains that are possible, and in each different sport.
The wrist sprain is a sprain that many people fail to think about, but a lot of people can actually get. Wrist sprains can happen in nearly every spot, simply because most sprains can happen when anything deals with the hands or wrist. They can happen when dealing with catching a ball, throwing a ball, using the ground (gymnastics), or using a stick (hockey, field hockey). Any sport that uses the hands has the ability to mess up the wrist, which will go through the wrist sprain.
An elbow sprain is a sprain that a lot of people do not think about, and less people go through. While it is possible to sprain your elbow, it is something that does not happen as often as you would think. It is possible to sprain your elbow from throwing and using a stick, but a lot of people use a bent arm, making it harder to sprain the elbow.
A knee sprain is a sprain that happens in a lot of different sports. When someone hyper-extends their knee, they often wind up with a knee sprain. This can happen to anyone who runs and jumps in their sport, which seems to include most of the sports in existence today.
An ankle sprain is the well known type of sprain. People are used to rolling their ankle when running or jumping (especially in basketball), so they are used to dealing with an ankle sprain. These sprains can be high or low, and can have various degrees of seriousness (just as other types of sprains).
A neck sprain is a type of sprain that is possible to nearly everyone, simply because it is generally an accident. People will accidently get hit in the wrong way, or will accidently use their neck the wrong way, making it hard to predict when it will happen.
A lot of people only think about the ankle sprain when they think about sports injuries, simply because it is the only one that they are familiar with. What they fail to realize, however, is that there are multiple aspects of sprains, and multiple ways with which you can mess up the ligaments, causing a sprain. Sports injuries are always different, depending on the sport and the sprain that is had.
