If you are interested in working your arms for a more defined and tone look then do not miss out the preacher curl for excellent gains in arm size. If you want to dramatically increase the size of your upper biceps muscle look no further than the preacher curl. The preacher curl is one of the best arm exercises and also one of the easiest to perform.

This exercise gets its name from the way that a preacher stands when he is leaning over the pulpit and delivering his sermon. The preacher curl predominantly works the upper biceps muscle, with some secondary resistance on the forearm flexors. It is important that when performing this exercise that your arms are positioned in front of your body and that you are leaning forward slightly. Always ensure that your elbows are in full contact with the bench throughout the movement and concentrate the feeling directly onto your biceps.

Resistance exercises called preacher curls are performed on this slanted bench that is referred to as a preacher curl bench. A lot of attention should be put on the lowering part of the exercise. This is one of the best arm exercises and you can expect fast gains in arm muscle. Select a preacher bar and load it with a moderately heavy weight, one that you are capable of performing about ten good quality repetitions.

Sit on the preacher bench, leaning over the angled arm pad with your elbows pinned against the pad. Assume the starting position, which is with the preacher bar level with the top of the chest and the biceps tensed. Slowly lower the barb resisting strongly as you do so until your biceps muscle is fully extended and then raise the bar tensing your biceps as you do so to the starting position. This constitutes one full repetition; you need to perform 10 to 12 reps and a total of four sets. On each consecutive set increase the weight a little at a time.

You can do preacher curls with a standard curl bar, Olympic bar, or a combo bar, you could even use dumbbells if you prefer. A preacher curl bench doesn’t take up much room and weighs only about 50 pounds and they are pretty affordable too. If you are a body builder or just want to build up your biceps, consider purchasing a preacher curl bench. The greatness of the preacher curl is that it helps to isolate the biceps so that you are able to tone them and fill in the space between the lower biceps and the elbow. Decide what preacher curl bench you want to purchase. There are several models available.

You will also need an easy curl bar and weights, as most benches do not include them. Adjust your bench to the proper height. Make certain your shoulders are elevated, or that you don’t sit hunched over the pad. In not time you will have arms that will be well defined and massive in size.
