Popular Karaoke Songs

If you are building your karaoke music collection, you probably want to know what the most popular songs are for singing karaoke. Sometimes they are the same as the songs that a currently popular, but often the most popular karaoke songs are ones that have been around for a while so many people know them and are familiar with them. You can also look at the current chart-toppers and find those karaoke albums that include the current tunes. If you cater to a younger crowd or are throwing a party where the guests will largely be younger, then a mix of currently popular songs will be a big hit.

While there are many different standards for choosing the most popular karaoke songs, here are a few of the top ones from different lists. The song “Livin’ on a Prayer” from bon Jovi is a favorite for groups, when the high notes at the end are bound to bring some laughs. “Itsy bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” is another fun favorite, and groups get a kick out of it too.

“Billie Jean” from Michael Jackson is entertaining to sing with all the extra pops with the voice and for the great beat. Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” is another popular group song, and “All By Myself” by Celine Dion is a favorite with the Divas out there who want to show off their vocal skills. “Hotel California” by the Eagles, and everyone’s favorite group tune, “YMCA” are also popular in karaoke for groups, as is ABBA’s standard, “Dancing Queen.” It, of course, begs ABBA-like dance steps.

Duets are popular in karaoke venues, especially the Grease standard, “Summer Nights.” Also popular are “I’ve Got You, Babe,” and “It Takes Two.” A karaoke DJ offered his list of favorites, starting off with “Unchained Melody” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone;” tunes that do well because they are familiar across the age categories. “Angels” by Robbie Williams is a popular request, as are Elivs tunes such as “Suspicious Minds” and “Hound Dog” which offer the opportunity for cutting loose on the dance as well as the vocals. “Can’t Help Falling In Love” is a favorite, and the females in a group will often request Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” “I Will Survive” and “My Way” tend to be popular karaoke songs as well, often as a message from one member of the group to one or more of the other member of a group.

Besides those songs that can reach across the age and interest spectrums, there are songs that are popular among certain groups, lovers of a particular genre of music. The really young and early teen crowd gets going for the songs from the Disney musicals and from the Radio Disney crowd, for example. Country lovers go for the classics like “Lucille” and “One the Road Again,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and “Country Roads” as well as music from currents artists like Carrie Underwood and Kenny Chesney.
