Polaris ATVs

Polaris is dedicated to the making of great products like snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles (ATVs). In fact, Polaris is not only among the best-known makers of snowmobiles, they are credited with being the first to manufacture snowmobiles. The founders, Edgar Hetteen and Allan Hetteen were partners in a hoist and derrick shop in Roseau, Minnesota. They partnered with David Johnson to create a vehicle that could travel through snow. Their primary purpose was to make hunting areas more accessible. The company is based in Medina, Minnesota.

Polaris considers making great snowmobiles and ATVs a not just a job but a way of life. Employees of Polaris don’t just make ATVs; they are enthusiastic riders, giving Polaris an obvious competitive advantage.

Polaris ATVs are very popular with people who like riding off road, and also people who need to ride off road as part of their work, like ranchers and farmers. They are not street-legal in most of the US, Canada and Australia, however. An ATV is a vehicle that rides on low-pressure tires, where the driver straddles the seat (motorcycle-style), and uses handlebars for steering. ATVs are not motorcycles, however—they have more wheels than a motorcycle.

Polaris ATVs are designed to handle all terrains, that’s why they are called ATVs Typically, ATVs are made for one person, although two seat ATVs may be on the way from some manufacturer. Compared to riding a motorcycle off road, the extra wheels of the ATV give it more stability at low speed. ATVs usually have 3 or 4 wheels but some have as many as 6.

Like any vehicle, Polaris ATVs must be maintained properly. ATVs mostly have simple two stroke engines, so it isn’t all that complicated for you to do your own maintenance. However, even if you are intimidated by the idea of rebuilding even the simplest engine, and plan to hook up the trailer and drag it to the shop whenever anything goes wrong, it is worth learning to do most of the basic maintenance yourself. A well-maintained ATV will give you years of off road fun (or work, if you’re a rancher).

Even though off road riding isn’t too dangerous on an ATV, considering that they don’t move all that fast, you should always make safety your priority. Always wear a helmet, and you will want to make sure you wear adequate protective clothing. Generally, it’s a good idea to wear padded clothing designed for the purpose, although it isn’t strictly necessary. You should also wear sturdy work boots to avoid the risk of injuries great and small to your feet.

It is vital to wear a helmet when riding an ATV, to avoid potentially debilitating or even fatal injuries. The recommended helmet type for ATV enthusiasts, though, is the off road or motocross helmet. It covers most of your face and protects your chin and jaw. They are different from typical full-face helmets in that they provide good ventilation and a flip up visor/face shield.
