Hewlett-Packard, now most commonly known as HP, is a leader in computer monitor technology and production today. HP was founded in 1939 in a garage in California. Its first product was an oscillator designed to enhance audio. Walt Disney Studios purchased 8 of them for the production of their movie Fantasia.

While they continued to produce electronics and audio equipment, the company became global in 1959. The company introduced the first desktop scientific calculator in the 1960s, and the first handheld electronic calculator, and the first wristwatch with a built-in calculator in the 1970s.

HP released its first personal computer in 1980, a machine that looked like a large typewriter crossed with an adding machine, and quickly became a major player in the beginnings of the home computing industry. They introduced the first computer with a touch screen display in 1983. The computer monitor wasn’t separate, but part of the actual computer itself in those days. In 1995, the HP Pavilion marked HPs first offering of the modern computers, complete with computer monitor.

In 2004, HP entered the digital entertainment market, using their computer monitor technology and the latest digital technologies to create their line of large plasma TVs. By 2006, HP ranked as 14 in the list of Fortune 500 companies. Now, Hewlett-Packard offers a line of computer monitors for home use and one designed specifically for business.

Their current flat panel computer monitors for home and business use contain multiple USB ports for devices like MP3 players to connect directly to the monitor, media card readers and high resolutions. The screens can be adjusted for brightness, clarity and tilt for the best ergonomic support possible. No drivers are necessary with their Plug-and-Play compatible monitors, most of which have ambient light sensors that allow them to adjust according to the brightness in the room.

Some screens have built-in lights on the bottom to provide light to your desktop area, and many have a space for you to park the keyboard on its base to save space on your desktop. For years Hewlett-Packard has been creating home computer with and without monitors, and has become one of the most relied upon names in the industry for quality products. They were one of the first companies to introduce a laptop computer, as well as a handheld computer device, both before their popularity surged, and after with the HP Jornada and other handheld solutions.

Hewlett-Packard’s computer monitors with touch screen technology use Surface Acoustic Wave technology to allow a finger, gloved or not, or a stylus to control the monitor. The screens are made of glass and will work even if scratched, and the bases are designed to keep the monitor stable during use. They’re designed for use, not just in business and at home, but in multi-user business environments like hospitality situations and banks, manufacturing. And the design lends itself well to use for educational purposes in museums and learning centers, as well as kiosks.
