HealthRider is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest exercise equipment companies, Icon Health and Fitness.
Other brands included in the holding company are Weider, Weslo, Nordic Track, and Reebok.
When HealthRider introduced their original model in the 1990’s a huge number of people became interested in exercise equipment, estimated in the millions. It attempted to make all the work of fitness easier than people thought it could be and even threw in a little fun along the way.
The same concepts live on today, expressed as using innovative technologies, easy-to-use, low-impact while remaining enjoyable.
A consistent approach to features is found in all Icon Fitness brands. Sensors on the grips for pulse readings, a series of iFit technologies, making CDs, videos and he internet accessible, allowing the iFit feature to control the speed, incline and resistance of your workout are all features that carry across products.
Safety is addressed with a SoftTrack™ Cushing system that makes sure your ankles, knees and hips get a softer and safer workout.
All these features come in an affordable packaging.
Creating a sleeker design in the newer models is a focus while still making the exercise regimen challenging with all the extras.
To assure your workout is in the target fitness zone for your heart the BioLogic ™ grip pulse sensors monitor your program.
The line even goes to the point of adding fans for a cooling and luxurious experience with the CoolAire Workout fans.
With a program of continued research by their engineers for creating newer models there are over 10 plants in North America for manufacturing the products. The range in prices is from $800 to $1600 for the 5 models currently offered online.
You may find other models still being sold through other channels as they lat a long time and are often found on the used market through places like eBay.
They had an issue with quality though that they seem to have resolved. It seemed at one point features were important to them and they were less focused on quality.
In reviewing their HealthRider 400 SE Treadmill it is very similar to its sister company product, the Nordic Track c2200 Treadmill.
There are some exceptions to note though. The first area to look at is the console – it doesn’t seem to be as nice as the Nordic Track. The number of workout programs is less too. The HealthRider 400 SE includes 6 workout programs while the Nordic Track C220 has 10.
Both have the same iFit workout technology, similar deck, power incline and push button speed control.
There is a positive comparison on the HealthRider side of the comparison list though.
The HealthRider does have a larger motor capable of generating more power for the users exercise program.
Even though they are from companies in the same organizational structure there are not totally shared engineering or manufacturing systems, meaning that there’s a long way to go to get synergies for this holding company.
That might be good for the consumer though – more choices with options to meet their own unique needs is always a good thing for the consumer.
