Have you ever been driving along and suddenly you have no idea where you are or maybe you know where you are but have no idea how to get to where you need to be? It is usually about then that the handy road map gets pulled out of the console and you have to pull over to the side of the road and try to figure this whole thing out. You search for landmarks or a street sign just to give you an idea of what is going on. Say bye bye to those days! Those days are gone with wringer washers! The GPS system formally known as Global Positioning System has changed everything when it comes to location and finding the way to somewhere. This system was not invented or designed for everyday people to use; it has actually been around since the 70’s and was implemented by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Currently, there are some 24 satellites that circle the earth and give a huge amount of information regarding locations. This is the system that currently birthed the GPS navigation system that consumers now use to map their routes. These are portable units so they can be moved from place to place. Newer cars however often have these systems mounted right inside as a perk. Think about water navigation, it relies on GPS navigation every day. By no means are these systems solely used for any of the above purposes but rather they are carried many times and used like a compass would be, they are used for pets in the event that they get lost, and employees use them to keep track of employees that may be out on the road.
The future of GPS navigation is clearly defined. Soon you will be able to see all the cars within a certain radius of you right on your own GPS screen in your car. This will be used to lower the traffic accident rates and likely it will help. Plan to see a message from your GPS system if you are nearing a traffic light change where the color of your screen may turn the color that the light it and if you are accidentally about to run a red light, it will stop you.
GPS will take you to third party integration with businesses. Check this out, you have a PO Box which you usually drive to, get out and go in to see if you have mail but now you won’t have to stop because your GPS will inform you whether or not you have mail waiting as you are driving by. This is taking a look into the future of GPS navigation systems and it is pretty impressive. Although not that many people are too familiar with the GPS right now but it is making an impact just like the computer and the cell phone did and not they are no longer luxuries but necessities. It won’t be too long before GPS is a necessity too!
