Golf Cart Batteries

In the world of Golf Cart Batteries, all batteries aren’t really created equal. The different batteries are designed for different usage even though they have the same voltage ratings & similar specifications. Golf Cart Batteries are 8 volts so finding the right match can be a challenge but is critical.

The example that is easiest to understand relates to what we know about your car & RV batteries. It is designed to be recharged after giving you a large number of amps for a very short period of time (to start your car). Your RV battery however is intended to discharge deeply & slowly, steadily drawing the amps from the battery. The battery for a golf cart however, like your other devices who only have one power source (your cell phone for example), is expected to charge fully & then discharge as used.

Since the Golf Cart is used for a long period of time over a golf course as players are making their way around the course, there is often more than one in the golf cart, mounted in parallel, so that the golf cart remains operational across one or more rounds of golf in a days period (between overnight charges usually).

Let’s look at four good examples of 8 volt Golf Cart batteries that are considered high quality.

First is the Exide E4800 8V which has an increased cycling capacity with its high density oxide in thick lead antimony grids. This format helps keep form experiencing vibration or overcharging. It will also resist damage because of the type of casing it is in, a heavy rubber separator in a tough polyproylene container. It is very easy to hook up in sequence because of its varied terminal configuration. Being able to check all of the three cells at one time is a benefit because of its quick release 3 gang vents.

Next is the Exide Golf Car and Floor Scrubber which can be used in multiple vehicles because of its deep cycle power. You will find these batteries in scooters, wheelchairs, industrial equipment as well as golf carts. With a 12 month warranty it is designed for longevity & is resistant to vibration.

The Trojan 8V is found used at more than 95% of the golf courses. They have consistently delivered superior levels of performance with reliability and durability to fleets as the pioneer in the industry since 1952.

Rounding out the list is the Interstate 8 volt, offering models for deep charge as well as a starting battery. For the cranking power comparisons with no confusion, Interstate uses standard CCA & RC ratings in their specifications.

You will likely find other battery types used in golf carts including 12, 24, 36 & 48-volt models. These batteries should be run in sequence.

Make sure your service provider for mounting your batteries are professional & have experience hooking up batteries for your needs.

When shopping for batteries for your golf cart check your manual, look for HCA (hot cranking amp ratings), consider freshness, warranty & value for your purchase.
